Income Tax Online against
a Demand notice ??
making payment of tax against a demand notice, one must make sure that
the demand as per the notice is genuine and you need to pay it. If
demand is incorrect then file a rectification request with
CPC/Assessing Officer as the case may be.
Step by step process to pay Income Tax online on regular
assessment/against a demand notice of Income Tax Department:

Now Select Challan No./ ITNS 280. Following
form will appear....
Follow the process:
- Fill the above form carefully.
- Select Income Tax other than Companies.
- Relevant Assessment Year
for Financial Year 2012-13 will be
- Type of payment will be Tax on Regular Assessment.

- Enter the captcha code.
submission of above form, a confirmation screen will
your name as appears on your PAN card. On confirmation it will take you
to your bank's online website.Following screen will appear:
- Here it
will ask you to fill the details of your tax payment. Fill the entire
amount of payment against Income Tax as shown above.
- Make the required payment as
any other online payment is made.
- On payment a receipt of payment (Tax
Challan as shown below) will appear.
- Take print /save the same.

Whom to inform after making payment of Tax against a demand notice?
if the notice of demand is served upon you by the Jurisdictional
Assessing Officer, you must write request to the Assessing
to delete the demand mentioning therein the details of tax
payments made by you
and attaching therewith the copy of tax payment Challan.
In case the
demand notice is from CPC Bangalore no further communication
be required. Demand will automatically be adjusted with the tax
payments made. Ensure to enter correct
Assessment Year and correct head
for tax payment
while making payment. Just check the status of demand by logging in to
Income Tax e-filing portal after few days of making payment. The demand
must be deleted and should no more be appearing on the e-filing portal.
Latest introduced in the month of December 2014
E-filing portal has introduced an option to reply to CPC about what you
did in response to the demand. So now login to your account, there at
the home page on e-file section you will find an option "Response
to Outstanding Demand". Go to this option and fill the details as
required there & inform CPC about the action takem by you against
the Income Tax Damand.
